Why am I seeing ads? (Hint: It’s not ChefTap!)

ChefTap does not display ads of any kind to anyone. If you see ads while using ChefTap, it means you have a ‘spam app’ on your device. These apps are usually low-quality, free apps that run in the background and display ads over other apps while you’re using them.

Tips for avoiding and removing spam apps:

• Only install apps from the Google Play Store or the Amazon Appstore
  Google and Amazon block or remove spam apps from their stores when they find them. Other app stores don’t care. Criminal app developers will often ‘wrap’ legitimate app with their spam and spyware. We only release ChefTap on the Google Play Store, the Amazon Appstore, and Apple’s App Store. If you install ChefTap from any other app store, there’s a good chance our app has been tampered with.
• Never install ‘cracked’ paid apps from anywhere
  The people who turn paid apps into free apps are criminals and will not only make money showing ads over other apps, but will also upload all of your personal information, photos, and passwords to their servers.
• Review the apps you have installed and look for low-quality or utility apps
  Most apps that display ads over other apps are ones that you don’t use that much. In fact, these app developers hope that you forget that you have their app installed so they can run in the background and annoy you while you’re using apps you actually like. Uninstalling low-quality or infrequently used apps will often get rid of the pop-up ads you’re seeing.
• Spam apps often install other apps without your knowledge
  Spam apps will often install other apps that you’re unaware of. Sometimes those apps don’t display an icon you can tap on to launch them because they don’t want your to know they’re there. Reviewing the apps you have installed using your device’s Settings app is a good way to find apps that don’t appear on your home screen or app drawer.
• You may have to hard-reset your device
  Some spam apps install themselves so deeply into the operating system that the only way to get rid of them is to do a factory reset on your device. After you do a hard reset on your device, be very careful about which apps you reinstall or you’ll end up in the same boat.

Due to the wide variety of devices and the large number of spam apps, we are unable to help you if you’ve run into this issue. Often fixing this issue involves physically holding the device, which we obviously can’t do. If your device has a mobile data plan, you can get help from your carrier.
